Cloud Realm One of the mountaintop locations one of the mornings during our Top of Switzerland tour. Like magic watching the peaks emerge from the mists below us. Canon 5D4, 70-200mm at 94mm, polarizer, handheld, 1/160 second, f/8.0, ISO 100. With @christian_heeb_photographer #switzerland #murren #shilthorn #berneroberland #pizgloria #abovetheclouds
One more photo from Switzerland before I head out for the #outoforegon conference. This is obviously the Matterhorn in the distance, viewed before sunrise from above the Gorner Glacier. The peak on the left is the Breithorn. Thanks to @christian_heeb_photographer for showing us his home country. Now, on to Out of Oregon, part of the @OutOfChicago conferences. It's going to be an awesome week on the Oregon coast. Looking forward to teaching, sharing and hanging foul with a bunch of good folks. There are going to be some great instructors there, including @erinbabnikphotography, @nickpagephotography, Gavin Hardcastle, @ricksammonphotography, @f64academy, @ericparephoto and @pdavidsonphoto just to name a few. #outofchicago #newport #oregoncoast #oregon
I'm having fun editing my images from a recent photo trip to the Swiss Alps. I teamed up on this one with @christian_heeb_photographer. The tour was based almost entirely out of high mountain lodges so we could be on location during the good light hours. Our group was fortunate to marvel at several glorious sunsets and sunrises. This particular sunset, photographed from thousands of feet above the valley, was one heck of a view. Houses on the valley floor appear as small white dots. And, thanks to Europeans of past centuries going to great lengths to place churches on high points, there was even a chapel up there perched in a very precarious but photogenic position. I can only imagine the villagers mountaineering their way up for morning services each week.
The Gift Tree A recent family romp through the Redwoods took us back to this exact spot. I whipped out this image on my phone to show my kids what it looks like when the rhododendrons bloom...they were so impressed it hurt. 😆 #redwoodsnationalpark #northerncalifornia #trees #imacooldad #rhododendronbloom
A recent trip to Bandon, Oregon reminded me of the amazing labyrinths created periodically throughout the year by artist Denny Dyke. This was captured under full moon light, light painted by walking the path with a flashlight pointed at the ground. It took 8 minutes to walk the entire path. I got off course the first several attempts but finally succeeded after an hour just before the tide came in and erased it. #bandon #bandonbeach #labyrinth #oregoncoast #oregon #landscapephotography #lightpainting
Now Comes Spring (swipe for no IG crop) Not RIGHT now though. Autumn and winter first. I just love back lit flowers. They glow as if they are illuminated from within.
Storybook Land As I prepare for an upcoming photo trip in Europe, this image comes to mind. I captured it on Lake Bled, Slovenia a few years ago. In my childhood, this is quintessentially what Europe looked like to me. Thankfully I've seen a bit more of the real thing since then. I'm headed a little further north and west this time. Stay tuned.... #slovenia #lakebled #storybook #churchonalake
Fitz Roy Sunset and Moon(swipe for no crop) From a trip to Patagonia with @christian_heeb_photographer a few years ago. The sunset glow was beautiful but I also remember the wind being fierce that evening. I’m excited to be teaming up with Christian again in a couple weeks in the Alps of Switzerland where he is from. Canon5D4, 24-70mm lens @ 33mm, 30 seconds, f/18, ISO 100. Separate exposure for moon and clouds, 42mm, 2.5 seconds, f/13.
Waldo Lake Sunset I have been camping at Waldo Lake with family and friends on Labor Day Weekend for 12 years. In all that time...this is the sunset I knew I might see one year. This year I did! Canon 5D MK IV, 16-35mm at 16mm, polarizer for reflection and longer shutter speed, tripod, 3.2 seconds, f/18, ISO 100. #breakthroughphotographyfilters # #CascadiaExplored #traveloregon #nanpapix #Oregonexplored @1859oregon
Mount Jefferson Wilderness A couple of weeks ago I went backpacking with my son and some friends into the Mount Jefferson Wilderness. We camped for two nights up on Park Ridge and this was the view from my tent each morning. Canon 5D IV, 16-35mm lens at 27mm, @breakthrough.photography magnetic polarizer, @coloradotripodco tripod. 0.5 seconds, f/13 ISO 100. #cascadiaexplored # #traveloregon #PNWdiscovered

Sailor's Delight As the saying goes...red skies at night on the ocean often happen when a weather system is departing to the east and the skies to the west are clear, indicating high pressure and better weather to come. It holds true as long as weather systems are moving from west to east with the jet stream as they do on the Oregon coast. If you are in a place where wind patterns are blowing in weather systems from the east then it means just the opposite so be ready for the coming storm. Canon 5D4, 16-35mm lens at 16mm, @breakthrough.photography cpl, 0.8 seconds, f/18, ISO 100.
