Monte Cristallo (swipe for no crop) There are crosses all over the mountains in the Dolomites. They often mark summits or fortifications from WWI and WWII. This one must be 50 feet tall. If you look closely you can also see a suspension bridge spanning between two points on the right. This is part of the Ivano Dibona via ferrata route. From a workshop last winter with @erinbabnikphotography. Canon 5D Mark IV, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 360mm, 1/60 second, F/14, ISO 100, mirror lockup, 2 second timer shutter release
Cascade In The Cascade Range (swipe for no crop) If the Cascade Range that runs from northern California through Oregon, Washington and up into Canada wasn’t named for its countless waterfalls, it should have been. This fine cascade is one of many in the North Umpqua watershed. Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm f/2.8L II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 24mm, 0.8 seconds, F/18, ISO 100.
Canyon View (swipe for no crop) I was pleased to find this colorful desert plant growing on the rim of a canyon in the far desert country of Eastern Oregon. Canon 5D Mark IV, 16-35mm lens at 21mm, polarizer, 1/10 seconds, f/14, ISO 100 #owyheecanyonlands #oregondesert #theoregondesert #oregonisbeautiful #cascadiaexplored #easternoregon
Hidden Peak It's not THE Hidden Peak, the 11th highest mountain in the world, also known as Gasherbrum 1 or K5. This is a much smaller peak in the Dolomites and I don’t know its name. I just called it hidden peak because it was literally hiding in the clouds. Italy. Winter 2018 with @erinbabnikphotography
Mossy Grotto⠀ If no-one else has, I’m going to crown Oregon the waterfall capital of the western US. I have lived here all my life and seen dozens of waterfalls around the state, but there are still a bunch that I haven’t visited. This one might be my new favorite.⠀ ⠀ Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm f/2.8L II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 24mm, F/13, ISO 100. Two exposures at 0.8 and 1.6 seconds blended for shadows and sun highlight.⠀ ⠀ #cascadiaexplored #givebacktonature #oregon #nanpapix ⠀
Succor Creek Sunset⠀ Some nice, late evening light in the Owyhee Canyonlands of Eastern Oregon.⠀ ⠀ Canon 5D Mark IV, 16-35mm lens at 16 mm, polarizer, 0.3 seconds, f/16, ISO 100 ⠀ #owyheecanyonlands #succorcreekstatepark #cascadiaexplored #oregonexplored #oregonisbeautiful #givebacktonature⠀
Moran Sunrise I found this back in the archives from 2011. I had started working on it but never finished it. At the time I think I was unsatisfied with it because the sky directly over Mt. Moran was clear but I had envisioned a shot zoomed in on the mountain with early alpenglow. However, looking at it now I realize the image is about the clouds, light and color and the mountain is appropriate as a small and subtle counterpoint. The longer I do this the more I am aware of the importance of letting expectations go and seeing the potential in what is actually there in the moment. Canon 5D MKII, 24-105mm at 24mm, polarizer, 1.6 seconds, f/10, ISO 100. #wyoming #tetons #discoverearth #discoverglobe #teamcanon #nakedplanet #travelstoke #natgeotravel #roamtheplanet #awesomeglobe #awesomeearth #earthpix #theworldshotz #jaw_dropping_shots #stayandwander #fantastic_earth #global_hotshotz
Northwest By Southwest Swipe to see full image. You find the darndest things way out in the canyons of Eastern Oregon, like this eroded formation @zackschnepf and I stumbled across about 20 miles past the last paved road. After another couple miles of scrambling through gullies filled with sage and tumble weed., we thought we had taken a wrong turn and ended up in Utah. @owyheecanyonlands @theoregondesert #oregon #traveloregon #owyheecanyonlands #easternoregon #cascadiaexplored
Water Sculpted This triple tiered falls drops 100 feet through a deep slot it has been carving out of the old growth forest in the Southern Oregon Cascade Range. Swipe to see without the IG crop.
High Desert Balsamroot⠀ ⠀ For a few brief weeks of spring the Oregon High Desert comes alive with color. The hills are green and wildflowers can be plentiful. @zackschnepf and I found quite a bit of balsamroot while adventuring some of the backroads in April. I think we found more flowers than ticks this time, which I'm considering a win.⠀ #Balsamorhiza #oregonhighdesert #traveloregon #cascadiaexplored
Canyon Of Ferns⠀ ⠀ A magical and seemingly prehistoric canyon in Redwoods National Park. OK, I know it IS prehistoric...but I mean going in there feels like going back to the Jurassic Period. ⠀ Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm f/2.8L II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 24mm, F/16, ISO 100. Two exposures at 0.4 and 3.2 seconds blended for dynamic range⠀ #redwoodsnp #mysteriousgreen #teamcanon #cascadiaexplored #givebacktonature
Secret Window⠀ The best light on the west coast is when a storm is breaking just at the moment of sunset. In this case, even though the clouds were parting out on the horizon, it was still quite stormy on land. The rain kept spotting up my lens, so I ducked back under these trees to try to find some shelter. I still had to clean up a bunch of water spots in post, but I think I pulled it off.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #traveloregon #bestoforegoncoast #oregon⠀ #discoverglobe #discoverearth #nakedplanet #natgeolandscape #sunset⠀
Touching Twilight⠀ ⠀ The Dolomites rise so high and abruptly that they catch twilight long after sunset after the lower hills and valleys are in darkness. ⠀ ⠀ Canon 5D Mark IV, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 100mm, 1.3 seconds, F/14, ISO 100, mirror lockup, 2 second timer shutter release⠀ ⠀ #dolomiti #twilightglow #happyplace⠀
Emerald Cove⠀ One of my favorite hidden coves along the Oregon coast and one of the more dramatic light events I've seen there over the years. I was out with my Aussie friends @glen_parker_photography @ralph_hilmer and @faranak_sy when the sun broke through.⠀ ⠀ #oregon #oregoncoast #traveloregon⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
