The universal plan of the courtyard house is so well-suited to the Australian context. A private, walled sanctuary offers refuge and respite from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.

There’s more than one way to design a courtyard house, as aptly demonstrated by the outstanding homes in our latest issue of #housesmagazine

Available on newsstands from 1 June.

Mark it in your diary! Our Houses Melbourne is on 10 July.

Over the past decade, Ronnen Goren @dlonghouse and his partner Trace have worked closely with architect Timothy Hill to realize a scheme that embodies their passion for hospitality, food and farming, and traditions reinvented – resulting in the Daylesford Longhouse – "a tree change project.” Timothy Hill, founder of Hobart and Brisbane-based @partnershill , will share the fascinating story of Daylesford Longhouse, joined by client Ronnen Goren of Studio Ongarato. The project reconciles the desire of its owners to establish a working farm, cooking school, reception venue and home on a sheep grazed property near Daylesford, Victoria.

Visit designspeaks.com.au for your tickets. Selling fast so be sure to get in quick!

Reflecting today, on the life and prolific work of the late Enrico Taglietti. The seminal Canberra-based architect lead a practice that had a long commitment to domestic architecture, with many of his houses receiving awards and praise for the way they engaged with the landscape.

Born in Milan in 1926, Taglietti arrived in Canberra in 1956, tasked with designing the Italian embassy. He is highly significant to Australian architecture and, in particular, for his major contribution to the growth of the national capital. He was the recipient of the Australian Institute of Architects 2007 Gold Medal, the highest honour for an individual architect in Australia.

Paterson House (1970), Evans House (1970–71) and Mijuscovic House (1983) are three examples of his enduring residential architecture.

Over the years, these wonderful homes have been celebrated as part of the @housesmagazine Revisited series (see Houses 88, Houses 111 and Houses 118). Photography: Dianna Snape
