"Coral" One of my favorite images from the Utah desert. We had some really intense glow on these dunes just moments before this image was made but my favorite light is almost always a few minutes after sunset when things are a little softer.
I never thought I would be someone that was always at work. This is the first weekend I've had off in a while and so far I have just spent it just hanging out with the wife. Tomorrow we will get up early for a little hike, it's been too long since I've been in the mountains or even picked up a camera. I'm really looking forward to spending some quality time in nature, even if it means I have to get up at 5am to beat the heat. • This image was from a flight over Capitol Reef and taken with a NIKON D850 and 24-120 f4. This combo makes up the majority of my shots because of its tremendous versatility.
This seemed to be on of the favorites from the aerials I shared recently. Getting up in the air before dawn and watching this Landscape come to life with morning light was one of my favorite experiences of last year.
A few more images from flights over the Utah Deserts. This place has been a popular destination for aerial photography for decades and some of the old work from Tom Till and James Kay has been a big inspiration in in this genre.
The deserts of Utah have always had a hold on me. I just cant get enough of the endless variations and infinity views. At telephoto focal lengths the depth of field is shallow so I took several exposures focusing through the entire scene at f16 and then focus blended automatically in photoshop CC. Nikon D850, @nikonusa 70-300 AF-P. 155mm, f16
This lake looks a butterfly but it isn't named Butterfly Lake. What a shame. • Photography details: this view has long been one of my favorite views in the Uinta Mountains due to the obvious butterfly shape. To capture this scene I shot early morning with partly cloudy skies which gave the canyons some nice spotlighting. I used a @nikonusa D850 with a Nikon 70-300 AFP and a pano-head. This image consists of a series of 6 images taken horizontally with about 25% overlap at 85mm, f/11 and then stitched together in Adobe Bridge for a total pixel count of 123 megapixels in 16x9 ratio.
I'm ready to start complaining about winter again. • Photography stuff: I switched from my Nikon 14-24 2.8 a couple years ago in favor of the @tamronusa 15-30 2.8 G2 simply because the sun star is amazing. There is no compromise in sharpness or boca either and the range is just marginally more useful to my photography. While I do occasionally miss the slightly wider angle of the Nikon, I really love the Tamron.
"Water on Mars" After years of high pressure, a southern shift in the jet stream created some wonderfully wintery conditions throughout Southern Utah. •Shameless promotion: The Outsiders Landscape Photography Conference is just 1 ticket sale away from a big milestone and there are at the time of this post, only 51 tickets left! Come meet and learn from a bunch of world renowned photographers including Art Wolfe, Alex Noriega, Suzanne Mathia.
